17-year-old Dade City boy traveling with toddlers dies after crashing, overturning pickup truck: FHP

A Dade City teenager died after he crashed and was thrown from a pickup truck as it overturned in Sumter County on Thursday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the 17-year-old driver was traveling eastbound on Center Grade Road at a high speed when he lost control of the truck near County Road 471 around 9 p.m.

The truck entered the left shoulder and overturned, investigators said.

As the pickup overturned, troopers said the driver and 18-year-old front passenger were thrown from the truck.

They were both taken to a hospital. The 17-year-old boy later died from his injuries.

An 18-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy, a 2-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy were also in the truck as it overturned. Troopers said they were all taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
