An 18-year-old was arrested after hitting a man with his vehicle and running over his head multiple times before driving off, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
JNJ was arrested Monday in connection with the Sept. 16 aggravated battery on Silver Star Road near Belco Drive.
According to an affidavit for an arrest warrant, a witness told deputies that a man had walked between her car and a silver Dodge Dart, driven by J, when J turned the wheels and drove toward the man, knocking him over and driving over his body.
The vehicle then reversed over the man’s head, drove over his head and reversed once more before speeding off, deputies said.
“It’s kind of crazy. I wouldn’t think something like that could happen, but it does at the end of the day,” one person in the area said.
The victim had a fractured skull and multiple brain bleeds as a result, according to authorities.
The sheriff’s office was able to identify the Dodge Dart through traffic cameras and obtained a search warrant, which was executed on Sept. 30 during a traffic stop.
According to the affidavit, deputies questioned J, his girlfriend and another person who was in the vehicle when the aggravated battery occurred.
The girlfriend told deputies that she believed J ran over the man intentionally, and when she asked him why he did it, he replied, “I thought he had something.”
The other person who was in the vehicle had searched on Google, “ways to cover up hit n run.” Text messages from that day were also deleted from their phone, according to the affidavit.
“To go forward, back up, go forward again, that’s a little bit absurd,” another nearby resident said after learning of the allegations.
When J was interviewed, he denied ever seeing the victim and any involvement in hitting someone, the affidavit shows.
Deputies attempted to speak with the victim, but he appeared to have an “altered mental status,” the affidavit shows.
J faces a charge of attempted second-degree murder.
J appeared before a judge Tuesday and was denied bond.
“Because of the charge, you are not entitled to a bond,” the judge said during the hearing, appointing a public defender to represent him.
J remains in the Orange County Jail without bond.
