Two people hospitalized and two cats dead in Port Charlotte house fire

Two people were injured and two cats died in a house fire on McGuire Avenue in Port Charlotte Thursday afternoon.

According to Charlotte County Fire & EMS, one person was airlifted to the hospital as a trauma alert, and another person was also transported locally with injuries. Two cats died in the fire. However, crews were able to rescue a rabbit.

Crews arrived to the home just after 1:30 p.m., where they saw heavy flames coming out of the front of the house. Three cars were damaged in the fire and some of the fire affected the left side of the home.

The fire is under investigation by the county and the state fire marshal.
