81-year-old woman killed in Sebring 4-car crash

81-year-old woman killed in Sebring 4-car crash

The Florida Highway Patrol said an 81-year-old woman was killed on Thursday when she was involved in a multi-car crash.

The crash happened near the intersection of U.S. 98 and Spring lake Boulevard in Sebring at around 2:45 p.m.

Three cars traveling west on U.S. 98 were lawfully stopped for traffic, FHP said. From front to back, the vehicles included a GMC, a Cadillac SUV towing a trailer, and a Honda sedan.

A Ford pickup truck, also traveling west, failed to stop for traffic and rear-ended the Honda. The force shoved the Honda into the Cadillac and then the Cadillac into the GMC.

The passenger in the Honda, an 81-year-old California woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 68-year-old Vero Beach woman, was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The pickup driver, a 55-year-old Sebring man, sustained minor injuries, as did the other drivers and passengers involved in the collision. The crash closed U.S. 98 in both directions for a few hours Thursday afternoon.

FHP said their homicide unit will investigate the crash.
