A massive house fire on Saturday night in Weeki Wachee resulted in three people, including a responding Hernando County Sheriff’s deputy, being transported to the hospital after a dramatic rescue.
Just after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) was dispatched to the 11000 block of Richmond Street following reports of a house fire with occupants trapped inside.
Before HCFR personnel arrived on the scene, a nearby Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy swiftly responded to the distress call and successfully assisted in rescuing both occupants from the heavily involved home.
Upon arrival, fire rescue units encountered heavy fire throughout the structure. Firefighters immediately launched a dual effort, initiating firefighting operations while also providing immediate treatment to the two injured occupants.
The dangerous situation was compounded by several explosions encountered during the incident, including propane tanks that ignited. Crews worked intensively and brought the blaze under control in approximately 50 minutes.
Injuries and Investigation
The two occupants were transported to the hospital. One was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, while the second individual suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a specialized burn center.
The HCSO deputy who risked their own safety to rescue the occupants was also hospitalized for smoke inhalation but is expected to make a full recovery.
The cause of the destructive fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
