Ocala man killed when pickup strikes trees, overturns in Marion County

40-year-old Ocala man riding as a passenger in a pickup truck was killed early Wednesday in a crash along a Marion County road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal single-vehicle wreck happened around 1 a.m. on SE 137 Avenue Road, north of SE 47 Street Road.

The FHP said a 20-year-old Ocklawaha man was driving a pickup north on SE 137 Avenue Road and failed to negotiate a curve.

The pickup left the road and struck several trees before overturning into a ditch, the FHP said.

The Ocala man, who was the right front passenger, was ejected from the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene, an FHP crash report stated.

The driver and another passenger, a 20-year-old Citra woman, suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

The crash report said no one in the pickup was wearing a seat belt.
