80-year-old dies after struck in parking lot of retirement community

An 80-year-old woman died after she was struck by a car in the parking lot of a retirement community.

The woman was a pedestrian in the parking lot of Lakeview Terrace in Altoona at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was struck by a 2008 Ford Edge driven by a 96-year-old woman, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. She had been backing out of a parking space and did not see the woman.

The 80-year-old woman was airlifted to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The 96-year-old driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The accident remains under investigation.
