An Ocala man riding as a passenger in a pickup truck has died from injuries he sustained after he was ejected from the vehicle during a rollover accident in Marion County.
The fatal accident took place along SE 137th Avenue Road at around 1:05 a.m. on Wednesday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 20-year-old man was driving a pickup truck north on SE 137th Avenue, just north of SE 47th Street road.
The driver, who lives in Ocklawaha, failed to negotiate a curve towards the right. As a result, the pickup truck exited the roadway and entered the west grass shoulder.
After entering the shoulder, the pickup truck struck several trees before overturning in a ditch on the west shoulder.
The right front passenger of the vehicle, a 40-year-old man from Ocala, was ejected and injured in the accident. Marion County Fire Rescue crews pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The driver and another passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Citra, both sustained minor injuries in the crash.
According to the FHP report, none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
