A man has been arrested after one person was injured in a DeLand-area shooting early Sunday morning, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
VSO deputies and DeLand police responded to a reported shooting on the 1500 block of West New York Avenue in DeLand just after 5 a.m. on Sunday. Deputies found a man with a gunshot wound lying in the carport outside the home. The man was conscious when deputies arrived.
The victim was aided by deputies before being transported to a local hospital. VSO said that he was shot in the face and hip, but he is expected to survive.
At the scene, deputies also contacted the suspected shooter, and he was detained without incident. The suspect has been identified by VSO as ASC, 41, and he has now been arrested on charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault. SC is also facing charges for transmission of harmful material to a minor from an unrelated warrant.
According to the sheriff’s office, SC shot his 47-year-old roommate following a night of drinking.
Detectives have been talking with witnesses who fled the shooting to a nearby grocery store.
SC is being held on no bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail and the sheriff’s office has notified ICE his arrest due to his status as an undocumented immigrant.
