A semi-truck veered off Florida’s Turnpike and ended up in a roadside canal on Monday.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) said that morning rush hour traffic slowed to a crawl on the southbound lanes, just past the Okeechobee Blvd. exit.

PBCFR said that the truck was the only vehicle involved in the incident, and the driver escaped without injury. Crews assisted the driver to safety and deployed petroleum-absorbing booms in the canal as a precaution against potential fuel leakage.

Recovery operations lasted several hours, causing significant delays in both directions as crews worked to remove the truck from the water, according to PBCFR. Officials have not yet released details on what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

Motorists are advised to expect residual delays as cleanup continues.
