Shooting near Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade leaves 2 hospitalized

Deputies are investigating an early Wednesday shooting near the Golden Glades Interchange in northern Miami-Dade that they said left two men injured and forced authorities to seal off multiple apartment buildings for hours.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the shooting was reported around 12:51 a.m. in the area of Northwest First Avenue and Northwest 158th Street.

Deputies said they arrived and found a man lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to his lower extremities. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported him to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

They said a second victim, also suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, drove to Jackson North Medical Center in critical condition. He was later transported by fire rescue crews to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he remained in critical condition.

A witness, who asked not to be identified, told Local 10 News that he heard 12 to 13 gunshots fired.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene where Northwest 158th Street — between the Golden Glades Interchange and North Miami Avenue — remained heavily secured for hours as deputies expanded the perimeter.

Two apartment buildings were roped off with crime scene tape, and nearly a dozen evidence markers were placed throughout a parking lot, many concentrated near a single unit.

Detectives also examined a vehicle reportedly struck by gunfire.

Authorities believe someone inside that car may have been involved in driving to a hospital for treatment.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office General Investigations Unit has taken over the case and continues to comb the scene for evidence.

No additional details were immediately released.
