Deputies took a woman into custody after, they said, she was caught on video stabbing another woman who refused to give her money at a restaurant in Northwest Miami-Dade.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office units responded to reports of stabbing at in the area of Northwest 119th Street and 11th Avenue, at around 2:20 p.m., Wednesday.
Surveillance video from inside the Fritanga Pinolandia captured the frightening encounter.
Several customers could be seen standing on the far side of the restaurant. Some shielded their children from the violent attack.
“All the customers and my co-workers [were] afraid [of] somebody with scissors,” said BR, the restaurant’s manager.
According to the MDSO, the suspect, identified as 22-year-old DR, had been asking people in the area for money when she approached the victim.
“Probably they [were] fighting for tips or for food or something that a customer gave to one of them,” said R.
That was when the confrontation escalated. When the victim declined, R followed her and stabbed her in the upper extremities, investigators said.
Several witnesses called 911.
“We called the police. We called the police. Thank God the police come over, thank God,” said R.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
R was detained without further incident and taken to jail. She is facing several charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The normally busy restaurant was forced to close for several hours as authorities investigated the scene but later reopened in time for the dinner rush.
As of Thursday afternoon, the condition of the woman who was stabbed is not known.
