At least 30 people were displaced after an apartment building caught fire in Cedar Hammock on Friday.
According to the Cedar Hammock Fire Marshall, rescue units responded to the Coral Club Apartments located at 5920 36th Street West, following a reported building fire that involved a multi-residential three story structure.
Crews arrived just over two minutes after receiving the call and found heavy fire and smoke billowing from the rear of the 18-unit apartment building. Heavy smoke could also be seen emitting from all three levels at the front of the building.
Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue reported that the fire was extinguished within 30 minutes but three units sustained extreme damage, and 15 others suffered severe water damage.
The fire marshall also reported that the building had no power, and at least 30 residents were displaced as fire spread vertically throughout the apartments.
According to Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue, multiple pets were rescued from the structure and one person suffered minor injuries.
Initial estimates report that the building sustained over $1 million in property and content damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations.
The Red Cross was notified of the incident and responded to assist Coral Club property management with the displaced individuals.
