A 29-year-old Winter Haven man was killed in a crash early Sunday with a tank truck in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 1:10 a.m. on State Road 60 near Clarence Gordon Jr Road, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, the Winter Haven man was driving a Honda Accord and traveling eastbound on S.R. 60 at a high rate of speed when he struck the rear of the truck — a Freightliner Cascadia tractor with a tank semi-trailer that troopers said had lawfully stopped eastbound at a rail crossing and was hauling molten sulfer — and died at the scene.
The 62-year-old Lithia man driving the truck was not injured, the report states.
