Alleged drunk driver accused of crashing into Port St. Lucie Sushi restaurant

An alleged drunk driver crashing into a sushi restaurant hasn’t stopped the business from keeping their doors open, according to the business’s Facebook page.

According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD), at about 5 p.m. on Friday, November 28, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash that struck the front entrance of a sushi restaurant called Roy’s Sushi and Thai, located at 1417 NW St. Lucie West Boulevard.

Officers say upon their arrival, they saw visible structural damage to the building’s front exterior and door frame. A video from a St. Lucie County-based social media page, SLCscanner, shows damage to what appears to be the main entrance of the business.

Police say they were able to identify the driver behind the crash, identified as CM.B. While officers investigated, Brown showed signs that were consistent with being impaired, PSLPD says.

Officers were later able to arrest B for a DUI and transported her to PSLPD headquarters for further evaluation, PSLPD says.

Police say they collected breath samples where B’s BrAC came back as 0.101 and 0.102. A urine sample was also collected for a toxicology screening. Brown was later taken to the St. Lucie County Jail without incident.

B was booked on felony counts of DUI with property damage and failure to use due care.

The case is being investigated by the State Attorney’s Office, PSLPD says.

Despite the incident, Roy’s Sushi Thai and Grill opened the following day under its regular hours of 4:30 to 9:30 p.m., the business’s Facebook account says. The suhi restaurant says they have three entrances into the restaurant and that only their front door was affected.

The restaurant has assured its patrons that the damaged area has been sealed off, all debris has been cleared and the building has undergone a deep cleaning.

The business says a new door is on the way.
