A man was killed Saturday evening in a shooting in Boynton Beach that involved an off-duty deputy, authorities confirm.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), at 5:21 p.m., deputies were called to reports of an altercation that led to gunfire near the 9000 block of Water Course Way.
Deputies say they found a man dead from a gunshot wound upon arrival in the Boynton Waters neighborhood.
The off-duty deputy was reportedly uninjured in the shooting.
Neighbors including one woman who didn’t want to be on camera told CBS12 News the entire street was blocked off for hours one and she was forced to park across the road because officials would not let anyone drive in.
On Sunday, more sheriff’s units were spotted parked inside the community, but it’s not clear if the extra patrol had anything to do with the shooting or if it was simply routine.
So far, investigators have not released what sparked the confrontation, who fired first, or what evidence they’ve collected.
Due to the deputy’s involvement, the FDLE has been called in to investigate, and the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave.
PBSO says the investigation is ongoing at this time.
