VIDEO: Yacht catches fire, sends plume of smoke into air at South Tampa marina

A boat fire sent smoke billowing into the air at a marina in South Tampa Wednesday morning.

Tampa Fire Rescue said crews were called to the Westshore Yacht Club Marina just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

The first group of firefighters to arrive said they spotted a plume of smoke coming from one of the yachts docked at the marina. Video showed flames bursting out of the rear end of the boat.

According to officials, crews confirmed that no one was onboard the yacht when the fire broke out.

A fire boat provided a water supply for firefighters as they worked to extinguish the blaze. Crews said they also tried to protect several nearby boats from heat and smoke exposure.

The efforts caused the yacht to sink, with video showing the rear end of the boat submerged in the water by the time the blaze was out.

Authorities said there were no injuries associated with the incident.

The U.S. Coast Guard also assisted. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday.
