A dog was rescued from a house fire in Port Charlotte on Tuesday night.
According to Charlotte County Fire and Emergency Medical Services, crews were dispatched to a home on Coulton Avenue at around 8:44 p.m. in response to a call about a house fire with a dog trapped inside.
Crews arrived on scene and saw that the front door was open with smoke coming from inside.
All of the occupants of the home were able to safely exit, with the exception of the family dog, who was found unresponsive inside the home, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
The dog was taken out of the home and successfully resuscitated and taken by the owner to the Charlotte Animal Hospital for further treatment, CCSO said.
The home sustained minor damage, and the cause of the fire was determined to be an accidental kitchen fire, according to Charlotte County Fire.
