5-car crash in Clermont leaves woman dead, troopers say

A five-car crash in Clermont on Tuesday evening killed a Groveland woman and left three others injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a release, troopers said that the crash happened at US-27 and Greater Groves Boulevard around 4:56 p.m. There is currently a roadblock at this intersection.

In all, troopers explained that the crash involved five vehicles, including a 2017 Audi A7, 2019 Subaru Outback, a 2015 Lexus RX, a 2020 toyota Camry and a 2023 Honda Civic.

According to a crash report, the Audi A7 was traveling south on U.S. 27, approaching Greater Groves Boulevard in the outside lane.

The Lexus RX was traveling south on on U.S. 27, approaching Greater Groves Boulevard in the outside lane ahead of the Audi.

Troopers said the Subaru Outback was stopped in the northbound inside left turn lane at the intersection of on U.S. 27 and Greater Groves Boulevard.

The Honda Civic was traveling north on U.S. 27, approaching Greater Groves Boulevard in the center lane.

In addition, the Toyota Camry was traveling north on U.S. 27, approaching Greater Groves Boulevard in the center lane behind the Civic.

According to the report, the Audi failed to slow for the Lexus ahead, and as a result, the front of the Audi struck the left back os the Lexus.

The Audi continued and collided with the Subaru. Troopers said crash debris struck the hood of the Civic.

The Subaru then rotated into the northbound center land and entered the direct path of the Camry. As a result, the front of the Camry collided with the back of the Subaru.

Troopers said the driver of the Audi —a 50-year-old Groveland woman — was airlifted to the hospital, where she later died, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the driver and passenger of the Subaru and the driver of the Camry were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, troopers added.

The crash remains under investigation.
