A pedestrian was killed in a crash early Sunday morning near the intersection of Avent Drive and Palm Hills Drive near NAS Jax, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit says the incident happened at approximately 12:04 a.m.
A driver going eastbound on Avent Drive struck a pedestrian walking in the roadway near Palm Hills Drive.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital by Jacksonville Fire Rescue but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
This fatality marks the 166th traffic death in Duval County this year and the 37th involving a pedestrian.
Avent Drive remained closed for about an hour as detectives conducted their on-scene investigation.
