Driver who ran red light taken to hospital after crash in The Villages

A driver who ran a red light early Monday morning was taken to a local hospital after a crash in The Villages.

The man was driving a Hyundai Kona traveling eastbound when he ran the red light at El Camino Real and Botello Avenue near the entrance to the Village of Alhambra, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

His vehicle struck a Chevy Spark which was turning from Enrique Drive at the Village of Santiago to westbound El Camino Real.

The driver who caused the crash was transported as a precaution to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital. He was also ticketed, according to the sheriff’s office.
