Woman allegedly hits ex-boyfriend over marriage status during stroll at park

A Clermont woman was arrested after allegedly hitting her ex-boyfriend’s face during an argument over his marriage status at Waterfront Park.

An officer spoke with the former boyfriend of 31-year-old SMA as a person of interest in a potential residential burglary around 2:40 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Clermont Police Department. While there, he learned the ex-boyfriend had been in a physical altercation with A.

He advised that on Friday, he met with her at Waterfront Park, 330 Third St., with the intention of getting some of his personal belongings from her. The two were walking down the sidewalk holding hands, with her at his right side. During this time, an argument began about the fact that he was still legally married to another woman, the report said.

A then released his hand and struck him in the face with the back of her left hand, hitting his eye area. Text messages between them referenced this incident. He had also taken a photo of a red scratch mark on his eyelid below his eyebrow with a date and time stamp that matched his story, the report said.

Further investigation revealed the ex-boyfriend and A had been dating for three and a half years. She had moved out of their shared residence about two and a half months prior, and the relationship officially ended on Sunday, the report said.

A was subsequently arrested at her residence on Hunt Street for simple battery (domestic). She was transported to Lake County Jail to be held without bond.

She was also arrested earlier in December for purposefully ramming her ex-boyfriend’s car at a night spot in Clermont.
