A fire broke out at a manufactured home along Anchor Drive in Estero on Thursday morning.

Estero firefighters responded to the blaze at approximately 4:30 a.m. and found a downed power line in the back of the home, with smoke and flames billowing from it.

According to Estero Fire Rescue, crews completely overhauled and helped the homeowner secure their belongings once power was secured by Florida Power and Light (FPL).

Although the mobile home is still standing, firefighters said it is a total loss.

Darlene McClure, a Mariners Cove resident, helped the couple escape the danger. “I open up the door and seen my neighbor standing there and asked him what was going on, and they said, well, their house started on fire,” McClure said.

Fire officials said the occupants of the home did evacuate before fire crews arrived, and no injuries were reported.

San Carlos Park Fire and Lee County EMS also assisted Estero Fire Rescue with the response.

McClure noted that power lines have been problematic since Hurricane Ian. “Well, you know, some of them are leaning like you can see that one is not right straight. And there’s some in the back over there that are leaning to,” she said. Reflecting on the incident, McClure added, “So it’s scary because I just I was just thinking the other day, I said, you know what? We are so lucky we’ve never had a fire in this park. And then this happened. So it was like, oh, wow. Yeah. It’s, it’s devastating.”

The Estero and San Carlos Park fire departments managed to extinguish the fire quickly, and fortunately, no one was hurt. “That’s what I told them. I said, you know, you can replace your, your place, but you can’t replace your bodies. So at least you guys are alive. You’re okay. That’s the most important thing,” McClure said.

McClure mentioned that there are some cables down near her home, and FPL plans to inspect them soon.

Efforts are underway to determine what caused the power line to come down, igniting the fire.
