Crews battle fire inside home's garage along Spoonbill Lane in Gateway

Flames broke out at a home along Spoonbill Lane in the Gateway area of Lee County on Thursday morning.

According to the South Trail Fire Protection and Rescue Service District, firefighters saw smoke showing from above the garage door when they arrived.

Officials said crews were able to get the fire under control after approximately three minutes of the first engine arriving at the scene.

No injuries were reported, and the fire was contained to the garage.

According to South Trail Fire, damage was mostly limited to smoke damage in the garage, with no extension into the attic or interior living spaces.

The homeowner closed the door between the garage and the home before calling 911, which helped prevent the smoke and flames from spreading inside, South Trail Fire said.

South Trail Fire told Gulf Coast News the cause of the fire was ruled to be undetermined by the agency’s fire marshal/investigator.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
