Hit and run driver arrested, caught huffing nitrous oxide in Gainesville

Officers arrested a woman accused of leaving the scene of a traffic crash and driving while under the influence.

According to the arrest report for DM, 36, she rear-ended another vehicle on Southwest Archer Road and left the scene. Officers say the crash caused substantial damage to the other person’s car, and the driver reported a possible injury.

The victim told officers that Mappeared to be under the influence. The victim made note of M’s tag number, which was used to locate her at her home.

Officers say they found M sitting inside her home, inhaling a can of “Galaxy Gas,” which contains nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas.

Officers told her to stop inhaling the gas, which she refused to do. They grabbed the can away from her and took her into custody. Officers saw several cans of Galaxy Gas inside her vehicle.

M was booked into the Alachua County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of a crash, inhaling a harmful substance, and resisting arrest.
