Good Samaritan pulls men from submerged Porsche after deadly Delray Beach crash

A speeding Porsche 911 careened off State Road 7 and plunged into a drainage canal, killing the driver and leaving his passenger fighting for his life.

According to deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, 59-year-old Jeffrey Kay of Boca Raton was speeding in his Porsche 911 around noon on Saturday, traveling southbound on SR 7 from Saturnia Boulevard in Delray Beach, when he lost control.

Kay entered the median, struck a small palm tree, crossed into the northbound lanes, slammed through a guard rail, and landed submerged in a drainage canal, according to the crash report.

Deputies say a good Samaritan came to the rescue, pulling both Kay and his passenger, a man from Phoenix, Arizona, from the submerged sports car.

Both men were rushed to Delray Medical Center, where deputies say Kay later died from his injuries. His passenger remains in critical condition.
