Motorcyclist killed in Lake County crash, troopers say

A 39-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Lake County on Sunday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 5:10 p.m. at County Road 455 and Woodlands Drive.

According to a crash report, a Suzuki GSX-R600 was traveling north on C.R. 455, approaching Woodlands Drive.

Troopers said the motorcyclist failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway to the right, which caused the rider to be thrown from the vehicle.

According to the report, the motorcyclist – identified as Matthew Bierd from Howey-in-the-Hills – was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

The incident marks at least the third fatal motorcycle crash in Central Florida on Sunday, after two men driving motorcycles were killed in a crash with an SUV in Brevard County.
