Just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Bay County Fire and Rescue received a call regarding a house fire in Springfield.
Bay County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Matt Gothard said crews arrived in about five minutes. They found heavy smoke on all sides of the home. A significant amount of fire was coming from one corner of the house as well.
Chief Gothard said they immediately asked for more resources. Callaway, Springfield and Panama City agencies responded, and within about 20 minutes the fire was under control.
The Mexico Beach fire chief was in the area, heard the call, and arrived at the scene to help as well.
Fire crews kept the fire from spreading to the garage and other areas of the home, Chief Gothard said.
Gothard was asked if anyone was home during the fire but was unsure at the time. However, Gothard said he believed some animals had been rescued from the home.
The state fire marshal arrived on the scene quickly and will investigate the fire.
