Dunnellon man, 19, dies after motorcycle crash in Brevard County, Florida Highway Patrol says

A 19-year-old Dunnellon man riding a motorcycle through Sharpes died after losing control of the bike and crashing early Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 3:52 a.m. on U.S. Highway 1, approaching Puma Valley Way in the inside southbound lane, as the rider allegedly traveled above the posted speed limit, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the rider failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and lost control of the motorcycle, which ran off the roadway to the right. The bike then struck a utility pole as a result, the report states.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP. Troopers believe he was wearing a helmet during the crash.

FHP is still investigating.
