A man is dead after a fire Monday morning at a Warrington duplex home.

The fire broke out around 8:55 a.m. at the home in the 900 block of Bremen Avenue off of Gulf Beach Highway.

Escambia County Fire officials say a passerby noticed smoke coming from the home while taking out the trash. When firefighters arrived on scene, there was heavy fire showing from an apartment.

One resident made it out safely, while a man who lived on the other side of the duplex died in the fire.

It took about one hour for crews to put the fire out.

No further details have been released at this time, including the identity of the victim.

Fire officials are investigating, as well as the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Neighbors say a mother and her adult son lived there, but at the time of the fire, the mother was not home.

The resident who escaped safely is getting assistance from the American Red Cross.

Fire officials say the duplex is a total loss.
