1 dead after fiery crash on US 301 in Hillsborough County

One person is dead and three others were injured after a fiery crash on U.S. 301, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

It happened just past midnight Saturday in the Thonotosassa area, near Jackson Road.

According to FHP, a 22-year-old Brandon woman was driving south on 301 in a Chevy Camaro when she crossed the centerline and collided with a GMC Terrain.

The impact sent both vehicles spinning, coming to rest in the northbound lanes of 301 and the roadway shoulder. That’s when state troopers say a third vehicle, a Toyota Camry travelling northbound, collided with the Camaro.

The GMC reportedly caught fire post-collision, and first responders worked to remove the driver, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the GMC was unable to be removed from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene, officials say. The other two drivers also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

FHP is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call *FHP (*347).
