A deadly crash shut down part of SR-15 (North Spring Garden Avenue) in DeLand early Friday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2 a.m. near Cranleigh Avenue.
Troopers say a 43-year-old man was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry northbound on SR-15 when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway to the left, and entered the median. The car struck a railroad crossing gate arm support pole, causing it to rotate.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
SR-15 remains blocked in the area as the investigation continues. Drivers are being detoured to Woodland Boulevard (US-17/92).
This crash remains under investigation.
