An investigation is underway after an Orange County Fire Rescue medical transport caught on fire early Sunday morning.
A public information officer told WESH 2 that just before 1 a.m., the ambulance experienced a fire inside the driver’s compartment. This occurred in the area of University Boulevard and Suntree Boulevard.
“The fire, which remains under investigation, was contained to the interior cab,” Orange County Fire Rescue told WESH 2. “At the time of the incident, the unit was not transporting a patient and was not responding to an emergency call.”
The fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported.
OC Fire Rescue says that a backup unit with equivalent capabilities was placed into service to promptly restore operational readiness.
