A driver died and his two passengers were hospitalized Sunday night after he crashed his vehicle into a canal in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported at about 11 p.m. in the area of Southwest 268th Street and 107th Avenue.
Deputies said the two male passengers escaped from the vehicle as it was submerging and tried to rescue the driver, however the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The two passengers were transported to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition, authorities confirmed.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation and the identities of those involved were not immediately released.
