Collier County father arrested, accused of shooting 13-year-old son dead while drunk

A Collier County man was arrested for fatally shooting his 13-year-old son at an apartment complex near Naples Manor in July 2025.

GAZ, 39, was arrested Tuesday and is facing charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, investigators determined that Z consumed alcohol for several hours at an establishment and later had alcohol and marijuana at a friend’s residence along Sumter Grove Way.

Deputies said at that time, Z and his son were watching a UFC fight on TV. According to the sheriff’s office, Z repeatedly handled a firearm and practiced drawing it from his waistband and dry-firing with the child present.

The CCSO said the firearm was initially rendered safe by removing the magazine and clearing a live round from the chamber.

According to deputies, the magazine was reinserted at some point, and a round was chambered, and Z discharged a single shot that fatally struck his son.

Deputies noted the odor of alcohol on Z when they responded, and they saw marijuana in plain view. Two search warrants were then obtained for medical records and a blood draw.

According to the CCSO, Zs blood alcohol concentration was estimated to be approximately 0.116% at the time of the shooting. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08%, and a toxicologist concluded that Z was impaired by alcohol.

The sheriff’s office said the aggravated manslaughter charge that Z is facing carries a potential life sentence in prison.
