Cyclist critically injured in Sarasota hit-and-run crash

A 27-year-old Sarasota man riding a bicycle was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash Thursday night at Bee Ridge Road and McIntosh Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a vehicle was traveling west on Bee Ridge Road when the front of the vehicle struck the rider near the east side of the intersection. It is unclear what direction the bike rider was traveling, FHP said.

The cyclist was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

FHP said the driver fled the scene at a high rate of speed and continued west. The vehicle is believed to be a 2012-2015 Nissan Altima or Maxima with significant front-end damage, troopers said.

A witness at Beneva Road and Bee Ridge Road reported seeing a black 2012-2015 Nissan Altima or Maxima with heavy front-end damage and a destroyed windshield traveling west at a high rate of speed, FHP said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact FHP or Crime Stoppers. The case number is FHP26ON0056026.
