53-year-old pedestrian hit, killed in Lake County crash

A pedestrian has died after he was struck by a van on U.S. Highway 27 in Leesburg Friday evening, according to the Leesburg Police Department.

According to the report, a white 2016 van traveling southbound on U.S. 27 struck Michael Anthony, 53, of Leesburg, who was crossing the roadway. Next of kin has been notified.

The van driver has been identified as Ryan Surjan, 50, of Orlando.

Anthony sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts from Lake County Fire Rescue.

Southbound lanes of U.S. 27 were closed for about three hours during the investigation.
