A man in his early 20s riding a minibike was killed in a crash with an SUV on Gate Parkway early Saturday morning, according the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford said the the crash occurred around 1:10 a.m. on Gate Parkway underneath J. Turner Butler Boulevard (JTB).
Hungerford said the man was riding a Coleman minibike southbound on Gate Parkway in the middle lane when a woman driving a Lexus SUV turned left from JTB onto Gate Parkway and struck him in the intersection.
Both vehicles reportedly collided in the middle of the intersection, which caused all lanes of Gate Parkway to close temporarily.
Hungerford said paramedics arrived on scene and took the man to a local hospital, where he died shortly after arriving. The woman driving the SUV remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, according to Hungerford.
This crash marks the 25th traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
