4 injured following Jacksonville Eastside street party shooting

4 injured following Jacksonville Eastside street party shooting

Four people are receiving treatment for injuries following a shooting at a street party on Jacksonville’s Eastside, and no arrests have been made.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said this happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday when officers responded to the area of Jessie Street and found a 34-year-old woman with a gunshot injury. She was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue.

Some time later, officials said three other people, two men and another woman, ages 37-43, went to a hospital with gunshot injuries.

JSO says the three additional people came from the same area as the 34-year-old woman, where a street party took place.

Bishop Harry Williams, a lifelong Eastside resident, says violence anywhere in the city is unacceptable and believes neighbors must speak up to prevent it.

“It’s unfortunate that this stuff happens in this neighborhood and in any neighborhood, not just this neighborhood,” he said. “We just got to stop with the crime. We gotta love each other and don’t be afraid to tell somebody if you see something. Don’t be afraid. Tell him I see you got a gun on your side, put it in the car man.”

Williams says while there have been shootings in recent months, many involve people coming into the neighborhood, not those who live there.

“This community has unfortunately had a couple of shootings, but normally, to be honest, which is really from the outside, it’s not from the inside, normally from the outside people that come into the neighborhood. So the misconception is that Out East is a bad place to hang out, out east is a great place be,” Williams said.

He adds that community leaders and residents must be proactive, especially during large gatherings and parties.

“We just got to monitor people coming in the neighborhood and let them know the culture of the neighborhood, the culture of the neighborhood is that this is not what we want, and I think we put that message out and anytime we have anything, anytime we have a party, anytime we having a gathering,” he explained.

All four people are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries and are stable.

The Robbery and Violent Crimes detectives, along with JSO Crime Scene detectives, are processing the scene and are attempting to look for a suspect and motive in the shooting.
