Pedestrian fatally struck in Port Orange, FHP says

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in Port Orange.

Troopers say the crash occurred on Big Tree Road and La Costa Village Boulevard.

Preliminary evidence shows a 2011 Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound on Big Tree Road approached La Costa Village Boulevard before it fatally struck a pedestrian walking from north to south, entering the eastbound lane of Big Tree Road, FHP said.

The driver of the Corolla is a 20-year-old from Daytona Beach and remained on scene uninjured, troopers added.

The pedestrian has not been identified yet.

There’s currently a roadblock for both directions of Big Tree Road, according to FHP.
