A 42-year-old North Carolina man was killed early Wednesday when his pickup truck struck a guardrail along Interstate 95 in Volusia County and went airborne before overturning and landing in a water-filled ditch, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The fatal crash happened around 2:10 a.m. on I-95 south at mile marker 42 near Edgewater.
The FHP said the man was driving a 2017 Ford F-250 south of West Indian River Boulevard when he traveled off the road and struck a guardrail.
The pickup truck then went airborne, overturned and landed in a ditch, according to an FHP crash report.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected after the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
One southbound lane of I-95 is closed in the area as crews repair the guardrail, the FHP said.
