Four adults and two dogs were displaced after a fire erupted early Wednesday morning outside in the rear of a fourplex, which spread to the attic space, City of Miami Fire-Rescue officials said.
According to Lt. Pete Sanchez, the fire was reported at 2:58 a.m. at 7708 NE First Ave.
Sanchez said firefighters arrived and found a single-story fourplex, with smoke coming from the eaves.
“Firefighters made their way to the rear of the property extending hose-lines for an aggressive fire attack,” Sanchez said in an email to Local 10 News. “They encountered an exterior fire in the rear of the structure which had entered the attic space.”
According to Sanchez, all residents self-evacuated and the fire was brought under control within minutes.
“The fire was mainly exterior but there was extension into the common attic with water and smoke damage to all four units,” Sanchez said.
He confirmed that the American Red Cross was contacted to help the adults and animals displaced by the fire.
The Miami Fire Investigation Unit will determine the origin and cause of the fire.
