A 35-year-old man was arrested Thursday night on accusations that he got into a fight with another man at a popular bar in Coral Gables after making an anti-Cuban slur toward the victim.
According to an arrest report from the Coral Gables Police Department, the incident was reported shortly after 11 p.m. at Copper 29, located at 206 Miracle Mile.
Police said the victim claimed that the suspect, ASG, approached him in a “threatening manner” and said, “I know you from somewhere. All Cubans are the same p****.”
According to the report, G, of Hialeah, was born in Miami but his ethnicity is listed as Cuban.
Police said after he made the disparaging comment, G then got closer to the victim’s face, at which point the victim created distance from him.
According to the report, the victim claimed that he saw G reaching into his pocket and assumed a fighting stance.
G then kicked the victim in the leg and the two exchanged punches, eventually ending up on the floor, authorities said.
Police said surveillance video from the bar shows a pocketknife falling from G’s pocket during the altercation.
G fled the scene after the fight, authorities said.
According to the report, the victim sustained minor injuries to his face and minor cuts to his right wrist.
G was arrested a short time later on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Records show that at the time of his arrest, he was out on felony bond for charges of aggravated battery and possession of cocaine.
As of Friday afternoon, he remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”
