A teen driver struck and killed a pedestrian Monday afternoon on Rolling Acres Road in rural Lake County.
The 18-year-old Lady Lake woman was driving a 2008 Ford Edge at 12:40 p.m. southbound on Rolling Acres Road near Abele Road near the Village Pet Spa, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Her vehicle struck a 25-year-old Lady Lake man who was walking south on the roadway. The right front portion of her vehicle struck the man, pushing him into a wire fence. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Lake County Fire Rescue personnel. The teen driver was not injured.
The crash investigation shut down Rolling Acres Road for several hours. The teen’s Ford Edge was inside a yellow tape perimeter set up by investigators. At one point, a drone was used to aid with the investigation.
Rolling Acres Road is a popular cut-around for those trying to avoid traffic in and around The Villages.
