One man died, and another person was injured after a crash in Lakeland on Monday, the Lakeland Police Department said.
At 10:45 p.m., officers responded to a crash in the 1500 block of East Memorial Boulevard at Interlachen Parkway.
Just before the crash, a Silver GMC SUV was traveling east on East Memorial Boulevard while a bronze Ford SUV was traveling west.
As the vehicles approached the area, Lakeland police said that the Ford left the roadway, striking a guard rail, before redirecting south into the east lane and hitting the GMC.
Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Both drivers were taken to Lakeland Regional Health, where the driver of the GMC died due to his injuries.
He was identified as a Winter Haven resident, 49-year-old Deldrick A. Leonard, according to Lakeland PD.
The driver of the Ford SUV remains hospitalized though the extent of their injuries is unknown.
