A man was arrested for suspected DUI after his wife fell out of a golf cart while heading home from “partying at the club,” the North Port Police Department announced.
Officers responded to a golf cart crash around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, where a woman sustained a head injury.
According to an arrest affidavit, the driver, JP, and his wife had been “partying at the club” since noon and were heading home when the golf cart went over a speed bump and the wife fell out and hit her head.
The wife was airlifted to the hospital. There is no update on her condition at this time.
Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol from P, and he was arrested for suspected DUI.
“Instances like this are very rare; most residents in golf cart communities use them safely,” The North Port Police Department said.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, P has been released from jail on bond.
