A Largo man was accused of trying to kill his elderly neighbor by attacking him with a hammer on Wednesday.
BGR, 55, and the 84-year-old victim did not know each other, Largo police said.
R told Largo police that his “Father,” referring to God, told him to “kill a pedophile,” so he walked over to his neighbor’s home with a cayenne pepper mixture and a metal hammer, according to an arrest report. He was accused of throwing the mixture into the man’s face to blind him and then beating him with the hammer, causing “significant clear bloody injuries to the victim’s eyes, arms and head.”
The 84-year-old was taken to the hospital. After police arrived, R admitted to hitting the man with the hammer and trying to kill him, the arrest report said.
He was also accused of using the hammer to smash a window on the victim’s trailer. Police said he resisted officers while being placed under arrest.
R was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon causing great bodily harm, burglary with battery, criminal mischief and resisting an officer without violence. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, where he was being held without bond.
