A Leesburg man was arrested for DUI after crashing into a family home and hitting a juvenile resident with his car.
BND, 25, crashed an orange 2013 Subaru into a home on Williams Street at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He injured a 15-year-old boy in the process but fled eastbound before law enforcement got there, the report said.
A personnel member with Lake County Fire Rescue told officers about this, and they searched the area until they found D lying down in tall grass two houses down from the crash. He had slurred, thick-tongued speech and glossy eyes as they handcuffed him. He also had issues standing on his own, the report said.
D immediately became argumentative with officers and refused to obey their commands. While being escorted to a patrol vehicle, he pulled away from their grip and refused to walk. He was then taken back to the crash site to be medically evaluated, the report said.
Meanwhile, a female resident of the home recounted how she had been asleep when she heard a loud crash and her three children screaming. She then discovered an orange Subaru in her living room, where D was trying to open the driver’s door. He appeared to be under the influence and fled on foot when Lake Fire Rescue arrived on scene, the report said.
Her 15-year-old son added that he was sitting in the living room at the time of the crash. He heard the fence break before the vehicle crashed through their home shortly after. D tried to reverse the vehicle and fled on foot when he could not, the report said.
