A driver is in the hospital after his vehicle ended up submerged in the water in St. Pete Beach.
St. Pete Beach Fire Rescue and several other agencies responded around 8 p.m. Sunday where a white van was reportedly in the water at Blind Pass Road behind Mulligan’s Plaza.
Officials say the van entered the Intracoastal Waterway and was carried south by the outgoing tide.
A rescue swimmer went in the water to get the driver out. He was said to be the only person inside the van.
Rapid Dive crews then did a second search and confirmed that the van was empty and the driver was the only person inside.
The driver was taken to a local hospital, where he is stable with non-life-threatening injuries.
