A trooper shot a woman with a child in her car after she allegedly stabbed him in the neck and head during a reckless-driving stop in Miami.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say they were dispatched to the westbound lanes of State Road 836 at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday for reports of a reckless driver.
Upon arrival, the trooper reportedly found the car in the grassy center median and spoke with the woman behind the wheel, who also had a young child in the car.
During the course of the trooper’s conversation with the unidentified woman, she allegedly pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed him in the neck, head, and shoulder, per FHP. Both the trooper and the woman were transported to HCA Kendall Trauma.
Investigators say they later learned the woman had an active warrant out for child neglect, child abuse, and fleeing law enforcement. The Department of Family Service took the child into its care.
The suspect will be booked into Miami-Dade County Jail after she recovers in the hospital.
FDLE will reportedly review the trooper’s use of force.
